Today railroads are essential to the movement of goods, both within and to outside our region.

There's a lot of resistance to railroads.  People who live near rail yards feel that they bear a burden due to noise, congestion and safety concerns. But because railroads are critical to a vibrant job market and economy, we have developed ways to mitigate these sources of discontent.  We need to partner with railroads as they improve the safety and efficiency of goods movements through projects like the Alameda Corridor, which eliminated crossings which clogged traffic and added to air pollution.
